#BlackOutTuesday
Each of the black squares you just saw represented a #blackouttuesday post created by an Instragram user in support of and solidarity with the black community

About Blackout Tuesday

Blackout Tuesday was a collective action to protest racism and police brutality on Tuesday June 2, 2020 in response to the wrongfull killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor. Social media users participated by posting a single photo of a black square alongside the hashtag #blackouttuesday.

About This Project

Using a small set of real posts by users who participated in the movement, the visualization to the left shows a "replay" of the social phenomenon that quite literally "blacked out" Instagram. The next part of the project takes you to a different visualization that shows how the users who made the posts were connected on Instagram.
